There are several benefits that we have negotiated as part of our contract, as well as benefits which are provided by our parent unions, the NEA and NYSUT.

Medical Assistance Fund

The MAF is a $30,000 fund shared between ourselves and MUSE (the staff union at MMC). It is a reimbursement plan – not insurance – and administered by a third party chosen by the College.

It is available to members of MAC and staff of MUSE who are either uninsured or self-insured. It’s paid out in the beginning of the calendar year for medical expenses incurred during the previous calendar year. A notice is sent out annually at the beginning of the calendar year with instructions.

Professional Development Fund

The Professional Development Fund is a $10,000 fund for which eligible adjuncts can apply for grants of up to $750 per year for for travel, room, board, or other expenses incurred for verifiable active participation at an academic or professional conference or meeting. During the pandemic, it was raised to a $1000 cap, and available to be used for reimbursement of equipment expenses.

The application can be found here.

Longevity Bonus

If you have taught at Marymount for more than 14 semesters, you’ll receive a 3.5% bonus at the end of the semester for your service.

Tuition Remission/Auditing

After 5 semesters of teaching, you’re eligible to take one course (for credit or non-credit) per semester and have the registration fees waived, if space is available. This extends to your immediate family as well.

You are eligible to join in Marymount’s 403(B) Retirement plan, managed by TIAA/CREF. At the moment there is no match from the employer.

Our Parent Unions

The AFT (American Federation of Teachers) and NYSUT (New York State United Teachers) are our parent unions. Both of them have extensive benefits that you are eligible for: insurance, hotels, car rentals, credit cards, consolidation loans, cell service… Check out the links below:
